After spending all of July and most of August sick (in the middle of family reunions and my kids’ birthdays), we are finally recovering a semblance of a routine. Thankfully, this means time and energy to get back to blogging!
Some big transitions added to sickness and celebrations have made things extra difficult lately, and I’m turning to books as a source of comfort and stability for my girls. Millie especially likes the Llama Llama series right now.
Llama Llama Stories
Llama Llama centers on a young llama learning to navigate the world. We currently own Llama Llama Holiday Drama, Llama Llama Red Pajama, Llama Llama Gram and Grandpa, Llama Llama Home With Mama and Llama Llama Misses Mama.
Each of these stories is told in rhyme, accompanied by whimsical illustrations. They are fun and easy to read aloud, and a great length for bedtime stories. They also reassure that Mama Llama is always there for Llama Llama, no matter what.
I am not a fan of Llama Llama’s sass. I find that it can cross the line from relatable preschooler to obnoxious very quickly, but my daughter seems to focus on the positive aspects as we read.

Llama Llama Netflix Adaptation
Although I didn’t watch the whole Llama Llama series on Netflix, I felt like what I did see was not faithful to the style of the books. I felt like the attitude I mentioned earlier was amplified, while the sweet family relationships were downplayed.
Overview
Overall, Llama Llama is a sweet series to turn to for fun with kids. We read Llama Llama Red Pajama frequently as a reference for learning about how Mama Llama is never far from baby, even when he gets scared alone in bed. Although I prefer some other books personally, it has been great to have a comfort book to reach for when Millie just needs some quiet time to read together.
